Assignment #18 "Shoot Against the Light"

This interesting family of cypress knees was just standing there with the sun shining in the water behind them, begging to be included in my camera roll!

In this assignment, I was supposed to create a silhouette by exposing for the

background. I did that, and all these roots were just that -- black silhouettes. So I thought the photo would be a great deal more interesting if there was at least a little detail visible in them. I tried using the flash, but that was just a harsh light that made them all look flat. So I tried holding the light on my cell phone to them and that was just enough light to bring out the detail without overpowering the effect of the sun on the water. Almost perfect!
